The doings of a modern-day Sheppard ... one of the world's oldest professions

Would you like to raise sheep?  Then you need to enjoy treating sheep's feet, as that's a likely activity that will be required of a Sheppard.  

One of the world's oldest professions - for men - hasn't changed in some respects. Even in ancient days, sheep hooves were examined and trimmed regularly.

What does 'treating sheep's feet' look like for today's modern Sheppard?

First, you have to herd the sheep over to the paddock so you can put them through the chute. 

This is how a lady herds sheep - she walks slowly and quietly behind them. Ha. 

Then you walk them into this special device that cradles them on their side, so you can get to the feet. 

Then you basically give them a pedicure to make sure they don't have ingrown toenails and spray them with an anti-fungal treatment. 

How nice for the sheep.  

Jamie wasn't doing this alone. Husband Cory is always right there with her.  

They finished this job about 10 p.m.  

Only 50 sheep needed the treatment, but each animal has four darn feet. 

As we write this in June, our flock is out there on pasture, happily grazing the tastiest spring grasses you ever did see. This lamb meat will be a real delicious and nutritious treat for us all.
